Dish Network Expanding Local HD Offerings

According to Dish Network, the company is now offering local HD channels to a total of 61 different markets. The company claims that this accounts for approximately 61% of the country, which is good news for those that subscribe to the satellite company. Of course, with a good old fashioned antennae and an HDTV, you can pick up HD channels anyway. But, if you subscribe to Dish Network and you are looking for the convenience of getting your programming all in one place and without needing an antenna, this news is nice to hear.

Dish Network is hoping that its increase in local channels and the fact that they are offering them in some of the largest demographic areas, including Memphis, Tennessee and Grand Rapids, Michigan, will help them be a bit more competitive against their rival DirecTV.

Dish Network plans to add more local channels by this fall, bringing their grand total up to 83. According to the senior vice president of the company, Eric Sahl, the goal is to reach customers in 100 HD local markets as well as to offer 100 national HD channels.
