Exploring Your HD Movie Options

If you are wanting to watch movies from home in high definition, you have a few different options available to you. Aside from catching a movie in HD from your satellite or cable provider, you can also watch HD movies with a Blu-ray player, a DVD player with an upconverter, and even through online streaming.

The simplest and most effective way to watch HD movies is with a Blu-ray disc player, though it doesn’t come cheap. In fact, you are looking at spending at least $300 to purchase a player. Many claim that the PlayStation 3 offers the best Blu-ray player, which will cost you about $400 to buy. Of course, if you enjoy playing video games, this option is the most cost effective choice if you plan to purchase a Blu-ray player. Blu-ray discs also tend to be more expensive than their non-Blu-ray counterparts, so make sure to check out the prices of the movies before you purchase a player.

You don’t necessarily have to get a Blu-ray player to get the HD effect. You can also get a regular DVD player with an up-converter. Some of these up-converters increase the number of lines that are displayed, which makes the movie look better when watched on an HDTV. The benefit of this method is that you don’t have to replace your entire DVD collection in order to enjoy better resolution. You will have to attach the player with an HDMI cable and you will have to spend at least $50 on the up-converter, though high-quality models will cost over $100.

Streaming HD movies online is usually free, but there are some problems with the process and you will have to purchase some special equipment. For example, you will obviously need a computer. You will also need an adapter and the proper cables. Therefore, there will still be some upfront costs.
