Panasonic Making Plans for OLED Television Launch
July 9, 2008 – 4:22 pm,Panasonic has long been working on being able to offer new OLED-based HDTVs to consumers. Recently, the company announced that it is in the final stages of creating plans to launch a new 37 inch HDTV that will implement the technology. Better yet, the company intends to offer the televisions at a price that is comparable to what LCD and plasma televisions are currently being sold for.
Unfortunately, it will be quite some time before you can get your hands on it. In fact, the company says the televisions likely will not be available until 2011. When they do become available, however, they anticipate attaching $1300 price tag to the sets.
OLED televisions are still in the planning stages with all companies exploring the technology. Currently, the only OLED television available is an 11 inch model offered by Sony, model XEL-1. The industry expects to see the televisions become more available to the public within the next few years, but the current Sony model has a rather hefty price tag. As the technology becomes more readily available, however, it should see a drop in price. This is good news for television lovers, as the OLED technology offers a higher contrast ration and is capable of producing true blacks and without lag in the images.
