Sony Announce the Launch of New HDTVs

Sony has announced that it will now be offering seven new LCD HDTVs. The new XBR line of televisions includes seven different models, each utilizing triluminos LED backlighting. The new televisions are available in a variety of sizes, ranging from 19 inches to 70 inches.

LED backlighting has been used for quite some time in laptops with LCD screens, but has not been used a whole lot in HDTVs. By using the technology in their new XBR series, however, Sony is able to offer HDTVs that are thinner and provide an improved level of picture quality. In fact, the company claims that the new models offer improved contrast and black levels as well as improved color, which is achieved by using clusters of blue, red, and green. All of the new sets also have a 120Hz high frame rate.

The new line of premium HDTVs aren’t actually available yet, so pricing is uncertain.
