Wireless Television Technology Hits Markets in Japan

Keep an eye out, as you may soon see a new wireless video technology in the United States. Apparently, Sharp has already started selling a new line of LCD televisions in Japan that utilize Amimon’s wireless video technology. These new televisions are the first ones on the market to utilize high-bandwidth wireless technology, which will help to eliminate the need to use television cables.

According to Amimon’s vice president of marketing and business development, Noam Geri, the technology will be available on the X-series televisions offered by Sharp. This series will include 37 inch, 42 inch, and 46 inch televisions. Customers will have the option to include the wireless technology on their sets, with an added cost of about $900.

Although the price may seem pretty steep, it is a good option for those with thin televisions or for those that are hanging their televisions on their walls and don’t want unsightly wires hanging from their television sets.

Even though the Sharp televisions are only currently being launched in Japan, Geri said that there are two other manufacturers that will be launching the same technology in the United States by the end of 2008. In addition to the products being put out by Amimon, Belkin has also recently announced plans to offer wireless accessories later this year.

As with all new technology, the wireless capabilities will likely remain high priced for a little while, but they will likely become a regular feature in televisions within the next few years.
