A&E Promises More HD Programming

It appears that another network is ready to take advantage of the growing high definition market. According to an article written by Multichannel News, the A&E Television Network will be adding a new HDTV Network called Crime & Investigation HD in the fourth quarter of this year. The new channel will feature programming based on crime. There’s no word whether they will add any new special programming to coincide with the HD launch of the channel or what providers will carry it, but it sure has my wife excited as she’s a huge fan of crime and forensics shows!
This new HD channel will expand their listing of HD channels to 4. They also have A&E HD, The History Channel HD, and Biography HD. A&E is also hoping to offer 100% of its programming on these channels to be broadcast in ‘true HD’ in the future, which means no more transmitting standard programming on the HD channels while simply stretching the picture.
Hopefully, other television networks are taking note here. There’s nothing worse than paying extra money to your cable or satellite provider for HD channels, only to find out that while they are broadcasting an HD signal they are still just transmitting a standard definition program that is merely stretched to fit your screen. I know when I tune into a HD channel; I expect to be watching a show in high definition, not standard definition.
Do you have any more channels that you would like to see start broadcasting in HD that haven’t started yet?
