Toshiba Announces Its New Tiny HDTV Camera
April 9, 2008 – 1:24 pm,Toshiba has unveiled the tiniest HDTV camera in the world, measuring in at just 1.6 inches cubed and weighing only 65 grams (2.3 ounces). The camera, which is named the IK-HD1, is not actually available for purchase. Nonetheless, it is certainly a very interesting concept and contains a great deal of advanced technology.
Toshiba claims that the IK-HD1 is able to capture video with a quality of 1080i at 30 fps, which is accomplished with the help of three CCD chips and Toshiba’s “prism block” technology. The camera isn’t intended to be used for taking family videos, however, as it is geared toward professional broadcasting. As such, it needs to be hooked up to a control unit that can be located 90 feet away from the camera. This arrangement has many speculating that the camera will likely be used when filming reality television shows or perhaps in sports broadcasting.
Toshiba plans to display the camera at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention, which is taking place in Las Vegas later this month. In addition to its high resolution quality, it will also contain HD-SDI and analog RBG outputs.
