The Pros and Cons of Satellite Television

If you are ready to start getting more channels on your television than the few that are locally available, you may be trying to decide whether or not you should use cable or a satellite dish. As you consider the possibility of using a satellite dish for your programming, it is a good idea to weigh the pros and cons that this technology provides.

Some of the pros of satellite television include:

· More channel options – most satellite television companies offer more channels than cable providers
· Signal – so long as your dish remains lined up properly, satellite dishes provide an excellent signal
· Availability – satellite is available everywhere, while the availability of cable is limited
· Additional technology options – many satellite providers offer additional options and packages, such as packages that include phone lines and broadband Internet

The cons of using a satellite dish include:

· Blocked sight – although the signal provided by satellite dishes is great if you get the dish lined up with the satellite, getting it lined up can be a difficult task. This is particularly true if you live in the city, because buildings can block your signal, or if you live in an area with many trees blocking the line of sight.
· Weather – poor weather, such as storms, can interfere with the signal
· Visibility – a satellite dish has to be kept outside, either attached to the roof or outside walls, which can be unattractive
· Local programming – some satellite providers do not provide local programming, which means you still need to have an antenna to pick up your local channels

When deciding whether or not satellite television is right for you, it really comes down to personal preference as well as your personal situation. Location, availability, and pricing are all factors to consider while making the decision.
