Quanta Computer, which is a laptop manufacturer located in the United States, is entering into a partnership with OoVoo, which is a maker of video chat software. Apparently, the two are working together in order to bring videoconferencing to HDTV.

Through their collaboration, the two companies are working on developing a device that can easily plug into an HDTV while also connecting to the Internet. Users will then be able to use the Quanta Video Messenger service in order to chat with other people that have the device and with anyone that has OoVoo software on their computers.

The new device isn’t ready yet, but the companies expect their Quanta Video Messenger device to be ready later this year. In addition, OoVoo already demonstrated a prototype of the device. So, it looks like we really will be seeing it soon.

The device is only about the size of a hardback book and has the ability to connect to high-definition webcams as well as audio. OoVoo is also in discussions with cable companies and phone companies in the United States in an effort to include the videoconferencing abilities in set top boxes.
