TiVo to Offer New YouTube Service
March 28, 2008 – 10:39 am,On the 12th of this month, TiVo announced that it will start allowing subscribers to access YouTube videos with their televisions. According to the company, users will be able to log into their YouTube accounts with their televisions and will then be able to watch the videos without even needing to use a computer at all. This service won’t be available until later this year and it will only be available on Broadband-connected TiVo HD and with TiVo Series 3 Digital Video Recorders, which are capable of recording and displaying high definition videos.
The strange thing about this set up is that YouTube currently does not allow users to post videos that are in high definition. Therefore, all of the videos accessed through TiVo would be in standard definition. TiVo hasn’t officially named a launch date for the new service, however, so there is always the possibility that YouTube will make a change and allow videos to be posted in HD before the new program is started. It should be interesting to see how this all unfolds.
