A Few Simple Steps Toward a Good Television Purchase
March 22, 2008 – 8:15 am,Have you ever noticed how one television model can look great when compared to the other televisions, but then looks terrible when you visit another showroom? This is likely because of the settings that have been placed on each of the televisions. The showrooms generally try to set the televisions to look as good as possible, but these settings get changed throughout the day as customers fiddle around with the controls. I have also talked to television salesmen that have told me that they often purposely set some televisions to look better then others. According to one salesmen I talked to, they purposely make certain televisions look better than others depending on what is on special that week or based on which ones will give them the better commission. In other words, they make the televisions they want to sell look better than the rest.
Since you can’t be certain what the televisions are set at, you will need to set the controls yourself so you can be certain you are properly comparing the sets. Ideally, you should set your video controls at mid-point. Often, the contrast is set very high on televisions when they are delivered by the manufacturer. You should also set the color temperatures so they are at a standard setting or at 6500 Kelvin. You should also turn off any settings that may be on, such as edge and color enhancements, settings to increase the vividness, and special sharpness settings.
It is also a good idea to view materials on the television from a variety of different sources. Bring in your own DVD and ask to watch it on the television so you can see how your movies look on the television. Don’t forget to also look at the television from different viewing distances and, before you go into the showroom, you should measure the distance at which you will be sitting so you can sit the same distance away in the showroom.
