Thinking About Your Space When Picking Out a Television
March 18, 2008 – 9:52 am,When you head out to purchase a television for your home, there are many things you need to keep in mind. What I find, however, is that most people don’t consider the room when they head out to make a new television purchase. Sure, you might think about resolution, contrast ration, and other such factors. But, do you take the time to think about the type of television that is right for the room in which the television will be located?
I am not just talking about the size of your room when I say that you need to consider the room. I am also talking about other aspects of the room. For example, if you have a room that has a number of uncovered windows, you should stay away from a front projection television and a plasma television because the light will cause issues with viewing. Rather, you should look at getting an LCD television because light does not reflect from these televisions.
The size of your room is also important, but perhaps not in the way you thought. For example, if you are considering a rear projection television cabinet, you need to keep in mind that this will add another foot or two to the depth of your television. This means you need to sit back a little further in order to get the right viewing position.
Finally, keep in mind that televisions look much smaller in the showroom than they look in your living room. You may be drooling over a 60 inch television with an amazing picture and it may seem as if it will fit nicely in your home. But, once you get it home, it may be far too big and difficult to fit in your home. In addition, depending upon the depth of your space, getting a television that is too big can have a negative impact on the resolution. This is particularly true if you have an HDTV and you are watching television broadcasts that are not being aired in HD.
So, while you may be wanting to get the biggest set available, you don’t want to spend over $1,000 only to discover that the set is too big for your space and you have poor picture quality. Similarly, you don’t want to have a great picture that you can’t see because of the natural light in your room. Taking the time to consider your room will help guarantee you have a great television viewing experience.
