Deciding if HDTV is Right for You
March 15, 2008 – 11:11 am,Before you head out and purchase an HDTV, there are several factors that you should consider to make sure an HDTV is right for you. After all, spending the extra money for an HDTV may not be worthwhile for you if you are not going to enjoy the benefits these televisions bring. Personally, I think it is worth spending the extra money on an HDTV because of the direction television is moving. At the same, you don’t have to have an HDTV in order to still enjoy watching television. So long as you have a digital television or a digital antennae, you can still continue watching your favorite shows when things switch over in February of next year.
One thing you need to consider is whether or not your satellite or cable provider offers HD channels in your area. You should find out what the provider currently offers and what the provider plans to offer in the future. This way, you can get a better idea of the type of HD channels you will be able to enjoy.
You should also think about how many non-HDTV channels you are going to watch. If you are someone that likes watching your local channels and that enjoys watching non-HDTV 4×3 content, there really is no reason for you to purchase an HDTV. Although it is true that there are many new channels on satellite and on cable that are broadcast in HD, there are still many that are broadcast in digital 480i 4×3. More than likely, several of these channels will continue to be broadcast in non-HD for quite some time. So, take a good look at the types of programs you enjoy watching.
Another factor to consider is whether or not you like watching DVDs. If you are a movie aficionado, you will likely prefer having an HDTV because it really enhances the viewing experience. If you really don’t watch movies too often or if creating the theater experience is not important to you, then you might be better off getting a digital television.
Many families prefer to have an HDTV as their main television that the whole family enjoys, but HDTV is not necessary when it comes to secondary televisions such as those that go in the kids’ rooms or in the kitchen. Nonetheless, you have to consider your personal taste and lifestyle in order to determine what is right for you.
