Televisions Get More High Tech
March 11, 2008 – 7:14 am,If you are somebody that likes to stay on top of the latest innovations in technology and electronics, you have got to look further into connecting your television to your home network. It looks as if this handy little feature is going to be big this year among techies and can help you take your entertainment system to a whole new level.
By connecting your television to your network, you can successfully access the content that is held within your network. Sony and Hewlett-Packard were pushing this technology last year and Pioneer also offered a few television sets that were in compliance with the Digital Living Network Alliance certification. But, at that time, the technology wasn’t catching on as much as it looks like it will be this year.
By being in compliance with the Digital Living Network Alliance certification, the television is able to interact with other DLNA devices, which include PCs, storage devices, and gaming systems that are linked up to the home network. For 2008, HP is installing the Windows Media Center Extender in all of its new models. With this feature, you can access multimedia that is on your PC through your home network. Sony is also planning to offer the option of adding the Digital Media Extender (DMeX) to its sets, which makes them capable of interacting with networks that are DLNA compliant.
The concept of connecting to the Internet was also big at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show. Here, Sharp introduced new televisions that have what the company refers to as “Aquos Net” service. With this service, set owners can receive customized Web-based content. Panasonic also introduced its “Viera Cast” service, which allows set owners to access photos through Google’s Picaso or to watch videos on YouTube. In addition, Samsung introduced a television capable of receiving RSS feeds that are powered by USA Today. Each of these new television models are slated for release this year.
