Is Thinner Better When It Comes To Television Sets?

Have you ever heard that “slimmer is better?” As many people face body issues with the girth of their waists, televisions are also suffering from the desire to be thinner. It seems that consumers are demanding televisions that are thinner and lighter. This comes as no surprise, of course, as a thinner and lighter television is easier to move and is easier to place in a room.

In response to the demands of consumers, television companies are working diligently at developing televisions that are thinner than what is currently on the market. Unfortunately, making televisions thinner can be quite a challenge. After all, there is a great deal of technology going on within that television in order to create the great picture consumers are also demanding! Therefore, finding a way to make televisions thinner without sacrificing quality is the dilemma that television manufactures are facing.

Nonetheless, television manufacturers are finding a way to make these televisions thinner. LG, Hitachi, and JVC have all unveiled new sets that range from just 1.5 to 1.7 inches thick. LG was able to scale its sets down to 1.7 inches by reengineering the cabinet as well as the circuitry that is around the LCD module. In this way, they were able to remove unused space that was causing the televisions to be thicker.

What is even more amazing is that television manufacturers are managing to make their televisions thinner while also adding new features to their sets. One of the big changes to be seen this year is an improvement in the speakers that come with the televisions. Many companies have installed speakers that fire down rather than forward, which helps to produce a more full-bodied sound. Those companies that have embraced this technology include Philips, Panasonic, Sharp, Westinghouse, and Samsung. LG, on the other hand, as placed the speakers behind the cabinet so it can offer a smooth bezel while JVC has put an iPod dock in some of its sets. With this feature, you can play video and audio from your iPod on your television.
