What is an RGB Cable?
March 6, 2008 – 12:51 pm,As you set out to connect your television to all of its accessories, you may become a bit overwhelmed by all of the different types of cables to select from. Although many of the cables do look very much the same on the outside, they are actually quite different on the outside. Therefore, you need to understand the differences between these cables and what they are used for. One of these cables is the RGB cable.
In a nutshell, RGB cables are capable of separating the signal into red, green, and blue. The RGB cable is also able to transmit data for the high-resolution images. Therefore, RGB cables are used for HDTV as well as for computer monitors. These cables are not the only ones that are used with HDTV, however. Other cables commonly used for HDTV include HDMI, DVI, firewire, and component video.
By transmitting red, green, and blue, the RGB cable is able to produce several other colors. One thing that differentiates RBG cables from some other types of cables is the fact that is not bi-directional. This means that information can only be transmitted in one direction, which makes the RGB cable less desirable than other options for certain applications.
The RGB cable is more popular in Europe because it is considered to be the best option for carrying a signal on the SCART connector. Outside of Europe, however, the S-Video cable is a more popular option for television. When it comes to computer, on the other hand, the RGB cable is the most commonly used cable for connecting to monitors.
