Why Haven’t You Switched to HDTV Yet?

HDTVs have really come a long way in a very short period of time. According to the Consumer Electronics Association, somewhere around 6 million DTVs were purchased during the first five years these TVs were offered to the public. Only 300,000 of these sets, however, were integrated with DTV tuners. During this same time period, 400,000 tuner set-top-boxes were also sold.

This great initial success took place from between 1999 to 2003. By the time 2007 rolled around, the number of HDTVs sold was eight times that initial amount. Today, about half of all households have made the upgrade to digital television sets.

The fact that the number of HDTVs being sold has jumped so dramatically in recent years is mostly a matter of finance. When these HDTVs first hit the market, you were looking at spending $10,000 for a small set. Those that could afford it made the leap so they could enjoy the better pictures these televisions offered. For most people, however, spending the big bucks to buy an HDTV wasn’t worth it. Today, however, you can purchase a quality HDTV for as little as $700 or less. With the price tags coming down so dramatically, more people are finding that they can afford to make the switch.

Of course, the opportunities for enjoying HDTV have improved over recent years as well. More stations are broadcasting with HD signals and satellite and cable providers are offering more HD channels than ever before. In addition, Blu-ray and HD DVDs are becoming more common and offer a resolution that is far superior to the old-time television set and DVD player. So, if you can afford to make the switch to an HDTV, it is time to go ahead and jump on the bandwagon and make the change!
