Setting Up the Picture on Your HDTV
February 23, 2008 – 10:46 am,Once you purchase an HDTV, you want to make certain you achieve the best picture possible. Unfortunately, HDTVs don’t always have the best possible picture when they are first taken out of the box. Therefore, you will need to take a few steps in order to make sure you get the picture you want. By using these simply tricks, you will be certain to get the best picture possible!
Most first time HDTV buyers have problems with getting their TVs connected properly the video source. Whether you are using a satellite dish or a cable provider, you will probably find that there are several different ways to connect your components. Yet. They do not all provide you with excellent picture quality. If you use the same wires you used with your old TV, for example, you probably aren’t getting a much better picture than what you had before. The old-fashioned analog coaxial cables with the red, white, and yellow composite cables simply aren’t good enough any more!
In order to get your connections right, you need to check your set-top box in order to make sure it has outputs for either HDMI connections or component connections. Getting analog component connections, which have green, blue, and red cables, will provide you with sufficient HD signals. Therefore, this is a good starting off point when it comes to improving your picture. HDMI cables, however, are a better choice.
HDMI cables work well with the HD video signals and are better than component connections because these cables have to convert the HD signal to analog. As a result, some of the quality is lost. Don’t think you need to go out and spend a ton of money on these cables, though. HDMI cables from a no-name company will be just as good as the big name brands.
You are also going to need to make some adjustments to your television’s settings. It will take a bit of playing around with the contrast, brightness, and sharpness to get your TV looking good for your living room. The time will be well worth it, however, when you get a great looking picture.
You are also going to need to play around a little bit with the stretch setting on your new TV. When you watch television that is not broadcast in HD, you will find that there are some vertical bars on the sides of the picture. You can get rid of these spaces by stretching out the square, but this will only accentuate the flaws of non-HD television and makes everything look too wide. Therefore, most people prefer to just keep it on true picture and to deal with the black bars on the sides because the picture quality is better. Again, you might need to play around with the pictures a bit in order to find that one that you like the best.
