Setting Your Room Up for Optimum HDTV Viewing

Unlike televisions in the past, today’s HDTVs actually require putting a bit more thought into how you arrange your living room. The angle at which you sit, the distance you sit from the television, lighting, and many more factors can affect the quality of the image as you watch TV.

When you set up your room, you need to make sure your couch is located the appropriate distance from your television. If your couch is too far away, you won’t be able to see and appreciate all of the fine details that are made visible from HDTV. If you are too close to the television, on the other hand, you will see pixilation in your screen. This will make the picture seemed blurred and unattractive. A good rule of thumb is to multiply the screen size by 2.5 in order to determine how many inches you should be away from your screen. If you have a 52 inch television, for example, you should be located 130 inches (or 10 feet, 10 inches) away from the screen in order to get a good picture.

Lighting is also an important consideration. If you have too much ambient light, you might get a duller picture. Or, the light may cause a glare or a reflection to appear on the television. In order to avoid this affect, you might place your light behind the television. This way, you can get illumination without causing interference with your picture.

Don’t let this advice scare you off. It is not as if you will have a terrible picture if you have light in your room or as if your images will look terrible unless you sit a precise distance from the television. Rather, you should follow these tips in order to get the optimal viewing experience. In addition, you will find that playing around with your furniture and lighting arrangements will help you to greatly improve your viewing pleasure. Therefore, the time you spend playing around with your set up will greatly pay off in the end!
