Pioneer Offer KURO Technology

Pioneer made some exciting announcements at the Consumer Electronics Show. Unlike other companies, Pioneer did not unveil any new television models. They did, however, announce that they have developed what they are referring to as KURO technology.

When translated roughly from Japanese, KURO means “really, really black,” and that is just what this technology provides. With the new KURO technology applied to its plasma televisions, Pioneer is able to improve upon its contrast ratio. From a marketing standpoint, Pioneer is claiming that this new technology is allowing it to offer the first plasma televisions to provide absolute black color because it doesn’t emit any measurable light from its screen.

It may not seem important to have a deep black with your television, but it is the black that helps to create that three-dimensional look. The new KURO technology takes black to a whole new level for plasma TVs. Unfortunately, getting your hands on this technology won’t come cheap. The 50 inch Pioneer Elite PRO-110FD, which includes the KURO technology, is now available but with a $6,000 price tag. So, it might be worthwhile to wait a little while until the price tag on these babies come down a little!
