An Overview of What the International Consumer Electronics Show Had to Offer
January 31, 2008 – 7:30 am,The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is, without a doubt, the biggest event of the year for techies looking to stay on the cutting edge of available technology. It is also a good way to get a sneak peak at what is coming up. Now in its 41st year, the show has been the venue for the unveiling of a great deal of technology including the VCR and DVD player, CD players, satellite radio, HDTV, Xbox and more.
This year, over 30 different product categories and 2,700 exhibitors were at the show. Here is just an overview of some of the products that garnered the most attention.
· The Cadillac Provoq from GE, which is the fifth-generation fuel cell to be launched by the company. In this case, the cell has a lithium-ion battery that is used with electrically driven vehicles and that doesn’t use petroleum. In addition, the only emission produced by the fuel cell is water.
· The Moto Rokr E8 phone from Motorola, which is capable of shifting between being a music player, to an imaging device, to a phone with the simple touch of a button.
· A 150 inch plasma HDTV from Panasonic, which is a record setting size.
· The Eye-Fi SD card, which is capable of wirelessly sending photos to an online photo site or PC.
· The GSM phone from iRiver.
· The AnyPlay portable DVR from Comcast.
· The Eco TV from Phillips, which took the award for Best of Show at the event because of its ecofriendly technology.
· The iLooj from iRobot, which is a robot that is used to safely clean gutters.
· The open source modular gadgets from Bug Lab.
· The EXILIM Pro EX-FI from Casio, which is a camera with a burst shooting performance of 60 frames per second, making it the fastest in the world.
· A wireless DLP projector from Toshiba, which will carry the model number TDP-EW25U.
· A next generation portable television from both Motorola and Samsung.
· The Rolly speakerbot from Sony.
· Curved gaming DLP displays from Alienware and NEC
· A laser television from Mitsubishi.
· A home surveillance robot that is Wi-Fi enabled from WowWee Rovio, which is essentially a robot with a video camera.
· The 2-way Wi-Max technology from Intel.
· Handheld personal DTVs from LG.
· Wireless HD technology from Monsoon and Intel.
· An 11 inch Organic Light-Emitting Diode HDTV from Sony.
