If you are a novice when it comes to HDTVs, you might be feeling a bit confused by your options.  To help you begin narrowing down your choices, you should first decide wether you want a rear projection television or a flat panel television.

If you choose a rear projection television, you will be able to enjoy a larger screen for less than what you would typically pay for a flat panel television.  In addition, these televisions offer a greater amount of depth than the flat panel.  There are several different types of rear projection televisions to select from.  These include:

  • CRT
  • DLP
  • LCD
  • LCoS

While rear projection televisions are available in sizes ranging from 37 inches to more than 70 inches, these televisions are generally best for those that want a television that is larger than 50 inches and that enjoy watching movies.

Flat panel televisions are enjoying a great deal of popularity in the HDTV market.  The main reason for this growth in popularity is the fact that these televisions are very thin and lightweight.  As a result, they are easy to move around and can even be hung upon a wall.

The act that flat panel televisions are so thin does not detract from the sharp images they crate.  In fact, these televisions are capable of emitting very sharp and detailed pictures, though it costs quite a bit more to obtain a flat panel with a large screen compared to a rear projection television with a large screen.  There are two types of flat panel HDTVs to select from:

  • LCD
  • Plasma

Both types of flat panel HDTVs are very reliable, though they work in different ways.  Therefore, if you have decided to go with a flat panel HDTV, you will need to simply consider your personal preferences and needs when deciding which of these types is best for you.
